My trip to the Badlands
In August of 2018 I drove cross-country by myself from Seattle, Washington, back home to Westchester, New York. I planned many different stops along the journey, one of them being Badlands National Park, South Dakota. I arrived to an unbelievably picturesque sunset, and actually was able to find a spot along the trail to park my car with fellow campers I met, who were staying in a decked out livable school bus. The morning after, I wanted to wake up early so I could capture the sunrise. However, due to the wildfires from California, Washington and Montana, the sky was a dull gray - even being as far away as I was. Though the smokiness made for some good photographs, what I discovered to the other side of me was even more marvelous - a wild bison in the flesh. It was one of the most amazing experiences in my life, so naturally, I crept out of my car and took a few steps toward it, which brought us roughly 20 yards apart. It was stunning, to say the least. I got my shots, as it just minded its business and kept walking into the distance.
